Initiate a new Photoshop project (File > New) with dimensions of 600×750 pixels. Apply a subtle gradient to the Background layer using the Gradient Tool (G). Utilize the Rectangle Tool (U) to craft a rectangle (360x504px) to symbolize the baseball card.Fill it with white. Create an additional rectangle (serving as the inner region for content) using the Rectangle Tool (U). This inner rectangle is 15px narrower on each side compared to the larger, white rectangle.Fill the inner rectangle with a light blue hue (#1ba2f7). Reset the Foreground and Background colors to black and white by pressing D on the keyboard. Create a fresh layer.Next, navigate to Filter > Render > Clouds. Select the inner blue rectangle’s vector mask thumbnail (Cmd-click/Ctrl-click) to generate a selection. Ensure the clouds layer is active, then proceed to Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal Selection. Adjust the clouds layer’s Blend Mode to Overlay and set its Opacity to 90%. Import the New York Yankees Stadium image (referenced in tutorial resources) into the design. Aim for a creative, not historical, representation. Use the provided image as a guide for positioning. Apply the Gaussian Blur filter at a 1.5px Radius. Set the Blend Mode to Multiply. Duplicate the stadium layer twice.Select the duplicated layer above the stadium layer and apply Filter > Stylize > Find Edges. On the second duplicated layer, use Filter > Stylize > Glowing Edges with these settings:
Edge Width: 2
Edge Brightness: 8
Smoothness: 10
With the “stadium glowing edges” layer active, desaturate the image (Image > Adjust > Desaturate, Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + U). Invert the colors (Cmd/Ctrl + I) and set the Opacity to 60%. Group all stadium layers (Cmd/Ctrl + G) and lower the group’s Opacity to 90%.Cmd/Ctrl + click on the blue rectangle (inner area) to create a selection. Ensure you’re in the stadium group, then navigate to Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal Selection. Open the Joe DiMaggio photograph in Photoshop. Select the Pen Tool (P) from the Tools Panel, choose Paths mode in the Options Bar, and meticulously trace around the player. In the Paths Panel (Window > Paths), Control-click/right-click on the path and select Make Selection from the menu.Copy and paste Mr. DiMaggio into a new Photoshop document for further processing before incorporating him into the design. Colorize Joe DiMaggio’s black and white photograph.Create a selection around Joe DiMaggio (Cmd-click/Ctrl-click on the layer’s thumbnail). Create a Solid Color fill layer (Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color) and fill it with the skin color (#e2b97b). Set the layer’s Blend Mode to Color.Click on the vector mask thumbnail in the Layers Panel to paint on it. Use the Brush Tool (B) with a Hardness of 100% and black as the Foreground color to paint on the vector mask, removing color from areas other than the face and hands. Use the Eraser Tool (E) if a mistake is made. Create another Solid Color fill layer (Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color) filled with navy blue (#00005a). Use the Brush Tool (B) on the vector mask to remove the navy blue color from the subject’s face, hands, baseball bat, and shoes, leaving the color only on the uniform. This process is straightforward.Review the image; you should see something akin to this: Add color to the lips (#ff9253). To complete the coloring, create a Solid Color fill layer with black as the color to enhance the colors on the shoes, socks, and sleeves. Go to Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color and fill it with black (#000000).This time, set the Blend Mode to Soft Light. Use the Brush Tool (B) on the vector mask to remove the color from all areas except his shoes, socks, and sleeves. Merge all layers (Cmd/Ctrl + E) and make a selection around Joe DiMaggio by Cmd-click/Ctrl-clicking on the merged layer’s thumbnail. Copy and paste him into the design.First, adjust the size and position of the player. Duplicate the baseball player layer twice and set the Blend Mode for the duplicated layers to Multiply.Select the layer just above the original baseball player layer and apply Filter > Stylize > Find Edges. Lower this layer’s Opacity to 20%. On the other duplicated layer (above the first duplicated layer), go to Filter > Stylize > Glowing Edges with the following settings:
Edge Width: 1
Edge Brightness: 7
Smoothness: 1
Desaturate this layer (Image > Adjustments > Desaturate, Shift + Cmd/Ctrl + U). Invert the layer’s colors (Cmd/Ctrl + I) and set the Opacity to 60%. This technique allows us to achieve an illustrated appearance of the baseball player without the need for manual painting. Group all baseball player layers (Layer > Group Layers), make a selection around the inner area of the card (Cmd-click/Ctrl-click on the blue rectangle vector mask), and apply Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal Selection to hide parts of the player outside the card’s inner area. Use the Pen Tool (P), select Shape Layers mode in the Options Bar, and create the shape at the bottom of the card, as shown below. Fill the shape with a blue color (#023b9b). Download and install the free League Gothic font if not already installed.Utilize the Horizontal Type Tool (T) to add text to the card. Refer to the provided
