In this video, Chris from the WebFX Internet Marketing team provides an insightful overview on selling on Alibaba.Transcript: Alibaba.com boasts over 13 million buyers globally, indicating it may be the perfect time to explore selling on this platform. This presents a significant opportunity to broaden your B2B e-commerce presence and drive increased sales and revenue for your company. Are you acquainted with Alibaba? If not, let me explain. You’re familiar with the tech giant Amazon, aren’t you? Well, Alibaba is akin to Amazon, but with a primary focus on B2B transactions. In this video, when I mention Alibaba, I am referring specifically to Alibaba.com. The Alibaba Group, which owns Alibaba.com, encompasses several online platforms, including its B2C selling platforms. Simplified, Alibaba is an e-commerce platform that facilitates business-to-business sales. On Alibaba, many items are sold in bulk, with prices varying based on the quantity purchased. While individual consumers typically don’t buy in bulk, businesses do.Alibaba vs. AliExpressAs mentioned, Alibaba does cater to consumers through its platforms. AliExpress is one of Alibaba Group’s B2C platforms. The key difference between Alibaba and AliExpress lies in their focus: Alibaba on B2B selling and AliExpress on B2C. So, if you’re selling products to businesses, how do you sell on Alibaba? I’ll provide a quick guide! To become an Alibaba seller, you must first create an Alibaba account.1. Select your Alibaba seller planPaid plans are reasonably priced and come with numerous valuable features. Depending on your location, you can choose from several different plans. Paid plans allow you to post an unlimited number of products, respond to inquiries, and provide access to customer support. Choose the plan that aligns with your needs and budget. Upon opening an account, you’ll also go through Alibaba’s Business Verification process to ensure you’re a legitimate company.2. List your products on AlibabaThere’s no point in using Alibaba if you don’t have products to sell. You must list your products on the platform after creating your account. While you can add items individually, this can be time-consuming if you sell more than five products. Alibaba offers a bulk upload tool to simplify the process. Additionally, Alibaba uses AI to optimize your product listings for its algorithm, so don’t overlook this feature. You can also use SEO for Alibaba to enhance the visibility of your product listings.3. Create an appealing storeSimilar to Amazon’s storefront creation tools, Alibaba offers similar features. You can create a digital store through Alibaba to showcase your products without being a professional web developer. Why not make your store visually appealing? Once you complete these steps, you’ll be almost ready to start selling.Alibaba also suggests additional strategies when you’re ready to start selling.4. Enable Trade Assurance if availableTrade Assurance is Alibaba’s method of protecting buyers by offering a secure payment option. It aims to assist buyers in case of any issues with product quality or shipping. Since buyers know their money is protected if a problem arises, it encourages them to spend with businesses using Trade Assurance. This program is free for buyers, and certain sellers must pay up to two percent in transaction fees for every item purchased.5. Respond to customer messages promptlyA regular consumer may have few questions when purchasing a product, but a B2B customer, dealing with their company’s budget, may not make an immediate purchase. Part of the Alibaba seller experience involves managing inquiries, which may include questions or negotiations for better pricing. If someone is ordering 500 of a particular item, they’re likely looking to save as much money as possible. Respond to inquiries quickly and efficiently to secure sales.Listing your products and hoping for the best is not enough for success on Alibaba.1. Analyze your seller dataAlibaba’s platform provides valuable data to maximize your sales. Review your dashboards to understand how your products are performing. If you’re not meeting your sales goals, delve into the data to identify areas for improvement. Optimizing your product listings might require additional time. You can improve your listings by:
Adding more details to your product names and descriptions
Ensuring your product names and descriptions align with the search intent of your target customers
Using high-quality photos and videos
Alibaba’s platform also suggests changes to enhance product performance. Pay attention to these suggestions to drive more sales.2. Explore Alibaba advertisingWith Alibaba’s Keyword Advertising, you can increase your products’ visibility in search results. Boosted products can appear at the top of the first page, on the right or below each search results page, or at the top of app search results. You pay for every click on your product, but within a budget you set. Increased visibility and optimized listings will lead to more sales and a higher return on ad spend.3. Prioritize exceptional customer serviceThis tip may seem self-evident, but ensure you provide excellent customer service. Respond promptly to customer messages, ship products within the agreed-upon timeframe, and ensure the product matches the online description. Treat all customers well to encourage repeat business. If you’re still pondering, “What is Alibaba?” revisit the beginning of this video or explore more resources on the WebFX blog.
