Don’t miss the cinematic masterpiece “American Psycho” if you haven’t already, and take a moment to appreciate the memorable scene where Patrick Bateman proudly displays his new business cards to his colleagues, only to realize they are less than impressive. A quick search for “business card scene” will reveal this iconic moment. The scene underscores the absurdity of minor design differences being magnified by a group’s perception, a satirical commentary that resonates with designers and typographers alike. We hope you enjoy our reinterpretation of these templates!
Our selection of Google Fonts for these business card designs ensures both accessibility and free use. Explore the samples below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
In the film, Patrick Bateman references a font known as “Sillian Rail,” though we couldn’t locate a matching font. Instead, we opted for EB Garamond from Google Fonts, with the real font possibly being Garamond Classico SC, a non-free and non-Google Font.
The entire card is set in uppercase, with small caps enabled in Photoshop’s “Character” panel.
Font: EB Garamond
David Van Patten boasts about using “eggshell with Romalian Type” in the movie, but we couldn’t find a font by that name. We suspect the real font was Didot, and the closest Google Font match is Old Standard TT.
The name is in bold with the last name in all caps.
Font: Old Standard TT
Timothy Bryce’s card features a font labeled “Pale Nimbus,” which doesn’t exist. We believe Helvetica was the actual font used, and we’ve chosen Roboto as a free alternative, considering Helvetica may not be pre-installed on all machines.
The card is set in uppercase with the first letter of the first name matching the size of the last name, while the rest of the first name is slightly smaller. Note that Roboto does not support small caps.
Font: Roboto
Paul Allen’s card is not discussed in the movie, but we believe the font used is Copperplate Gothic. Since it might not be installed on all machines, we’ve found a close match in Google Font’s “Della Respira.” This card is unique in featuring periods in the phone number and two lines of text at the bottom.
The entire card is in uppercase with small caps activated where necessary. The name is bold.
Font: Della Respira
