This tutorial showcases the creation of a Nike shoe advertisement, demonstrating techniques that can be applied to any product image. To replicate this effect, visit NikeiD to customize your own pair of shoes or use your favorite sneakers as the focal point of your design.

After selecting the product for your ad, use the Pen Tool (P) in Paths mode to outline the edges of the shoe. Converting this path to a selection allows for the removal of the background. Invert the selection and delete the background to isolate the subject.
This process ensures the product is ready for the ad design. Proceed by creating a new Photoshop document (Ctrl/Cmd + N) with a 1000x800px canvas and a white background.
Import the shoe image into the new document. The focus is on the product, so a soft, subtle background is crafted to draw attention to the subject. Utilize the Grunge Grab Bag: Texture Pack to add texture, adjusting the size and placing it between the shoe layer and the white background layer.
Desaturate the texture and change its Blend Mode to Overlay to achieve a white background. Modify the background layer’s blending options to incorporate a grey (#b5b5b5) Color Overlay, reducing the texture layer’s Opacity to 30% for a cohesive look.
Tip: Resizing textures can lead to detail loss. Use the Sharpen filter (Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen) to enhance texture details.
Create a floor for the subject by duplicating the texture layer, adjusting its Blend Mode to Normal, and using Free Transform to create perspective. Apply the Burn Tool (O) to darken the floor’s corners and blend it with the textured background using the Eraser Tool (E) or a layer mask.
Darken the floor corners with a black brush on a new layer, adjusting its Opacity to 10% to draw focus to the center of the canvas.
The background is nearly complete. Add a light effect behind the shoe by creating a new layer above the background and using a white brush to create the effect. Integrate paint effects on the shoe to give the impression of paint melting onto it, using the Paint Tossing Pack for textures.
Adjust the colors of the paint effects with gradient maps and curves layers to match the shoe’s colors. Create a layer mask on the shoe layer to seamlessly connect the paint to the shoe. Add a soft shadow effect below the shoe for depth.
The poster is now almost finished. Enhance color contrasts with a Gradient Map adjustment layer set to Overlay, adjusting Opacity to achieve the desired effect. Add branding elements like logos and text for a polished final product.
